local
Once a GRITS has been in one place for a while we have to start making it "homey" to survive. So, I'm working on it. With being a "local" comes knowing the secret places that tourists don't know about... (yet I'm still very much a tourist).
Some of the local "to dos" in the City have been plain delightful. I've seen some awesome things lately... here are few highlights!
Chinatown's Pearl River Market. It's the closest thing I've seen to a Wal-Mart since I've been here. From tea sets to gymnastic shoes, and shampoo to hanging lanterns... they have it. Here I bought a surge protector to hold all of the electronics it takes for a GRITS girl... I've been having a light flickering problem on my side of the house :/
The Chat & Chew. Near Union Square is a scrumptious little place with a menu that is real "home cooking!" Thank goodness for some comfort food. The Maryland crab cake I had definitely rivaled some of Florida's best...
thanks for reading everyone,
xoxo

rainy days in the City

I haven't written all week, so here's a round-up of what's been going on in the Big Apple. It's been raining all week, so I'm a little waterlogged. My Columbia rain coat has come in handy...
In other news, momma is here visiting! It's so nice to have familiarity and a chance to show her what I've been doing. We have been tourists this weekend, Times Square, Carnegie Deli, Central Park... it's been lovely. Yesterday, we decided on seeing a broadway show to get out of the thunderstorms. We waited in the TKTS line (to get 1/2 price tickets), and we met the First Lady of Delaware. No kiddin
g. She was in front of us buying tickets for her family (the gov. of Delaware was in attendance with his fanny pack)... How crazy is that. She didn't tell us directly that they were the state's first family, but she mentioned it and I Googled it.We saw CHICAGO: The Musical, which was fabulous. The music was great and the actress that played Roxie Hart was the best.
Now we're both calling our dads for Father's Day. Paw Paw tells me, "Why don't you get on that plane with your Mom and go home, and make me happy!" ... I told him to call Alice Marshall and see what she says about it. Dad opened his gift from me this morning, a fishing shirt with the seminole logo on it. Here's a pic of Dad and I cleaning strawberries before I left. Happy Father's Day Daddy!!!
xoxo,
